MyBytes was a site developed for Microsoft, which was focused on teaching young adults about the meaning behind copyright, ownership and intellectual property of music.  The site featured a community driven engine where students could create tracks, and then “sell” them on a virtual community forum. The tokens used to “purchase” other tracks were virtual.  Students had the option to “pay” or not, when downloading a fellow community member’s track.

The emphasis was on what it feels like, as an artist, to have your creation “taken” without it being paid for. It also featured a series of video interviews asking questions to students about what they thought copyright infringement actually was.

The site is not live anymore, so some of the graphics above feature placeholder “Lorem Ipsum” text.
